Seminary Saturday is especially designed for those who are considering seminary education and those interested in seminary-level discourse for personal and/or ministry-related growth.

This one-day event will feature ABSW faculty teaching from their expertise on the theme "Social Ethics and Justice: Perspectives from Christian History, Music, and Leadership"

An Evening to Explore

RSVP is requested but there is no registration fee for Friday's Evening to Explore.

EXPERIENCE A SEMINARY CLASSROOM...

Prospective students are also highly encourage to attend Seminary Saturday on the following day, March 3rd. This is an introductory day to the ABSW classroom experience and several ABSW faculty members.

There is a $25 registration fee for Seminary Saturday (by February 27th). Prospective students who attend both Friday Evening to Explore and Seminary Saturday and go on to apply for Fall 2012 will have their admissions application fee of $25 waived.

Baptist-Muslim Dialogue Event

February 3, 2012 at 7:00 PM - Common Ground Baptist—Muslim Dialogue

Christians and Muslims together make up over half the world's population. Without peace and justice between these two religious communities there can be no meaningful peace in the world. The basis for this peace and understanding already exists within the foundational principles of these two faiths: the unity of God, love of God and love of neighbor. Those principles are found over and over again in the sacred texts of Islam and Christianity and, consequently, provide a common ground for dialogue and working together to achieve common goals.

This Friday evening dialogue will be devoted to engaging in conversation(s) with representatives from Baptist and Islamic communities that will focus on our commonalities and differences toward the goal of developing skills and strategies for creating sustainable working relationships across faith barriers.

Discussion Points:

Why are Baptists and Muslims interested in inter-religious dialogue?

How do Muslims and Baptists understand the love of God?

How do Baptists and Muslims understand the love of neighbor?

How do Muslims and Baptists interpret the unity of God?

How can Baptists and Muslims work together to impede violence in our local communities?

The Christian Faith for Lay People

January 28, 2012 at 9:30 AM - AN OVERVIEW OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH FOR LAY PEOPLE

The Pacific Coast Baptist Association (PCBA) presents the lay education series, "The Christian Faith for Lay People." The presentations will be led by Dr. James Chuck, Professor Emeritus of Theology and Church Ministries at ABSW and Pastor Emeritus of First Chinese Baptist Church in San Francisco.

There will be three sessions to the series, each from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm:

Saturday, January 28: Church History

Saturday, February 11: Christian Faith and World Religions

Saturday, February 25: Life and Mission of the Local Congregation
