David Ankcorn (’01) and his wife, Jennifer, announced the birth of Elizabeth Grace on July 16, 2001.

Gordon Bottemiller (’53, ’54) completed three years on the board of directors for the Orangewood Retirement Community, an American Baptist Homes of the West community in Phoenix, Ariz.

Philip Bowling-Dyer (’00) directed a missions project to Belize last spring for seven UC Berkeley students and three Intervarsity staff. They gave evangelistic presentations at elementary and high schools, and also did a little construction/rehab work.

Thomas Brown (’73) has written eight books including The Liberation of Christian Ministry, an exposé on bivocational ministry.

David Chen (’82, ’86) has been teaching in different seminaries in Los Angeles, Brazil, and New Zealand.

Victor Dawe (’45) published his own translation of the New Testament three years ago titled "A Pastoral Translation."

Robert Fleischmann (’73) served one year as president of the board of directors of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches.

Oscar Friedman (’64) serves as chaplain at Temple Station and Atherton Baptist Homes in Claremont, Calif., and is a member of the Christianity and Antiquity Society.

Mary Ellen Hudspeth (’33) received the John Mason Peck Society Award from the American Baptist Foundation and is currently serving on the Board of Missions at Palm West Community Church, Sun City West, Ariz.

Hubert Huntley (’55) received the 2001 Appreciation Award from Magic City Fly Fishers on May 18, 2001.

David Kwok (’57) is acting pastor at the Chinese American Bible Church in Freehold, N.J.

Harry Lansman (’50, ’54) serves as one of the area volunteers for the Atherton Baptist Homes Chaplaincy Program in Claremont, Calif. Wife Nola has served as volunteer manager of the "Treasure House" gift store for the past 11 years.

Scott Loo (’00) with his wife, Evelyn, has begun a three-year assignment in Bangladesh, where he will be encouraging church leaders in theological education through InterServe and the Lutheran Aid to Mission.

Feland Meadows (’57) was honored last March by 300 alumni of the Montessori Teacher Education Center, established by Dr. Meadows in Mexico City. The celebration included a "Feland L. Meadows Jr. Day" in recognition of his 31 years as a Montessori teacher and educator.

Diana Meehan (’83) was promoted to commander on July 1, 2001, and is serving on the staff of the Commandant of the Marine Corps in the office of the Chaplain of the Marine Corps in Washington, D.C. She received the meritorious service medal for her work as staff Protestant chaplain at the U.S. Naval Academy from 1997-2001.

James Merlin (’45) is vice president of the Washington Baptist Convention of the American Baptist Churches of the Northwest; chairman of the Department of World Mission Support for Inland Area of ABC/NW; member of Steering/Support Committee, Yakima Valley Hispanic Ministries; and senior member of the Board of Adjustment for the city of Wenatchee, Wash.

Alexander Muro (’70, ’76) retired in January 2001 and put his bed and breakfast inn, the Ben Maddox House, up for sale. He plans to move to Sacramento to be with his children.

Vijayalakshni Nakka-Cammauf (’88) visited India on a mission tour and vision trip in her position as the Minister of Missions, Adult Education, and Prayer at First Covenant Church of Oakland, Calif.

John Noriega (’96) recently completed two short-term mission trips to Italy and currently serves as chaplain for a skilled care facility in San Jose, Calif.

Donald Ott (’78) serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as a hospital chaplain in addition to working as a chaplain for Empire Health Services. He was promoted in May 2001 to major and is currently serving with the 396th Combat Support Hospital.

Katherine Patton-Thompkins (’95) and husband Floyd have moved to Georgia to build a Christian retreat center–"Triple ‘R’ Retreat Center (Restoration, Revelation, Resurrection)–for pastors and lay persons.

Amy Pearson (’98) and Matt Henry (’99) were ordained on Sept. 16, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Springfield, Ore. Dr. Nancy Hall (’81) and husband Mark preached at the ordination service. Amy is serving as pastor of United Methodist churches in Milton-Freewater and Weston, Ore., and Matt is pastor of a United Methodist church in Pendleton, Ore.

Paul Poehlman (’66) retired two years ago from Fremont Baptist Church in Seattle, Wash., and has been volunteering at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shoreline, Wash.

James Prince (’59, ’76) retired as of May 2000 from the chaplaincy at Fircrest School, Shoreline, Wash.

Gertrude Revoir (’58) was recognized by the Ashland Community Hospital and its auxiliary for 21 years service as a Pink Lady.

Merrill Richardson (’84) celebrated his 18th year as pastor at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Madera, Calif. He was reelected president of the St. John Baptist Association Congress, and he completed the California Department of Social Service Community Care Licensing Residential-Elderly Administrator Certification Program.

Norman Riddle (’49, ’65), after forty years of service as a missionary with ABC International Ministries, is teaching several Bible studies at First Baptist, Santa Barbara, Calif., along with his wife, Vonzeal.

Ralph Rowe (’60) completed three years of ministry in February 2001 as chaplain of The Terraces of Los Gatos, an American Baptist Homes of the West retirement community in Los Gatos, Calif.

William Scheeley (’59) retired from Evangelical Baptist Church of Wheatridge, Colo., on January 1, 2000.

Douglas Sharp (’75) will have a book on racism and reconciliation, No Partiality: The Idolatry of Race and The New Humanity, published by InterVarsity Press in January 2002.
