ASIAN CENTER WILL PARTICIPATE IN PULPIT AND PEW

Rev. Dr. Timothy TsengThe Asian American Center at ABSW has been selected to facilitate a portion of the Pulpit and the Pew Project, an interdenominational, inter-faith research project focused on strengthening the quality of pastoral leadership in America.

The Rev. Dr. Timothy Tseng, associate professor of American religious history and director of the Asian American Center, has been named to direct the Asian American component of the research project, which is based at the Divinity School at Duke University in Durham, N.C. and funded by the Lilly Endowment.

A $20,000 grant to the center will be used to develop a symposium of scholars and church leaders in the next year to ascertain the concerns and issues that Asian American clergy face.

Tseng says the grant represents a “deepening” of the center’s ministries, moving it beyond providing continuing education programs.
