MILES-TRIBBLE NAMED SEMINARY CHAPLAIN

Rev. Valerie Miles-TribbleThe Rev. Valerie Miles-Tribble, a 2001 graduate of ABSW and assistant pastor of Imani Community Church in Oakland, has been appointed seminary chaplain and student advisor.

Miles-Tribble is working with students, faculty and staff to design weekly worship services on campus. She is also advising the student council.

She says she is trying to encourage “a celebration of ABSW’s wonderful multicultural environment” by having a diversity of preachers who design worship services that are reflective of their traditions.

Fellowship is also an important part of the gathering each Tuesday evening, with food and conversation before and following the service.

In addition to providing a space for students to practice preaching and worship leadership, chapel is a time for the renewal and knitting together of the community, Miles-Tribble says.

“It’s that central place in our faith community where we can come to as the body of Christ and be the church.”
