Maxine Ashley (’70) was appointed
staff associate minister for Christian education for the American
Baptist Churches of Wisconsin in May 2003. Her husband, Timothy,
is the pastor of La Crosse First Baptist Church in Wisconsin. They
both have been seminary professors for 20 years in Canada.
Gordon Bennett (’60) was co-recipient
of the Dahlberg Peace Award at the 2001 Biennial of the American
Baptist Churches. He is professor emeritus at Eastern University
in St. Davids, Penn. Bennett has also co-organized the Alliance
for the Global Wellness Fund Treaty.
William Calbert (’52) has been
appointed member of The Washington, D.C. Historical Records Commission.
He and his wife, Madlyn, received the 2002 Mary McCleod Bethune
Award from the association for the study of African-American life
and history.
John Carroll (’55) is currently
managing the Elder Hostel Program for the Green Lake Conference
Center in Green Lake, Wis.
Victor Dawe (’45) just completed
his ninth interim pastorate since his retirement in 1988.
Richard Gregory (’54) married
Marjorie Thatcher (’54) on June
28, 2003, in Edina, Minn.
Dale Edmondson (’57) became the
interim minister at First Baptist Church, Oakland, Calif., in May
2003.
Robert Gilmore (’60) and wife,
Maurine, were honored as the founders of the Newberg Friends Hispanic
Church during the 20th anniversary celebration of the church. Gilmore
is also teaching Spanish to Newberg police, firemen, EMTs, and other
city employees.
William Godwin (’73) is the vice
president for membership and constituency for the American Baptist
Churches of the USA Ministers Council. He is also a member of the
board of directors for the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Ecumenical
Council.
Hubert Huntley (’55) is an on-call
chaplain for Deaconess Hospital in Billings, Mont.
Paul Kopp (’44) has served 14
interim pastorates since retiring. He now lives in Southern California.
Paul Little (’57) has begun his
11th interim pastorate at First Baptist Church of Dearborn, Mich.
Carl Locke (’37) and his wife,
Wilma, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on January 13,
2003.
James Macias (’80) and his wife,
Dale, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 1, 2003.
Diana Meehan (’83) detached from
Headquarters Marine Corps on March 15, 2003, and is now serving
with the Marine Aircraft Group 13 in Yuma, Ariz., as the group chaplain.
John Minter (’55) and his wife,
Patsy, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 9, 2003.
Debra Mumford (’97) has been selected
as a doctoral fellow for 2003-2004 by the Fund for Theological Education.
She is pursuing her doctoral studies at the Graduate Theological
Union in Berkeley.
Dan Myers (’60) retired on May
1, 2001, as CEO/president of Master Plan Ministries of La Quinta,
Calif.
Eugene Paden (’49) is interim
pastor at First Baptist Church in Pasadena, Calif.
Jennifer Platenberg (’03) is director
of camp programming at Redwood Glen Baptist Camp in Loma Mar, Ca.
Alan Pollock (’63) and wife, Cathie,
served the last two years as Minister and Missionary Benefit Board
visitors to American Baptist Churches retirees in Southern California.
Mary Beth Sarhatt (’90) is the
new pastor of First Baptist Church in Kalamazoo, Mich., as of March
2003.
Harry Steger (’59) published the
results of an honors course that he taught during his 20 years at
Boise State University. The publication is titled "The Pinks
and the Blues: Gender Differences Between Male and Female Gifted
Students."
Sidney Stone (’51) has published
a book titled 1001 Fresh Ideas For Your Church.
Melvin Stout (’82) resigned as
pastor of American Canyon Baptist Church on June 1, 2003, and has
moved to Maui, Hawaii, to establish a house church.
Dennis Stull (’73) was appointed
provost/ vice president for academic affairs at Alderson-Broaddus
College in Philippi, W.V.
Robert Sturdivant (’96) serves
on The West Central Indiana Program Board and is the vice president
of campus ministries of Terre Haute, Ind.
Takahiro Suzuki (’75) has published
a book titled The Work of Pastor. It is on the best-sellers list
for Japanese Christian churches.
James Treat (’93) published his
latest book in January 2003, titled Around The Sacred Fire: Native
Religious Activism in the Red Power Era, which is a narrative map
of the Indian Ecumenical Conference.
Robert Varnam (’74) has been appointed
interim minister at Flager Baptist Church and Arriba Bethel Church
of the Brethern in Colorado.
Robert Wallace (’58) has served
as interim area minister for The American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts
this past year.
Denise Bowman Wylie (’95) spoke
in February 2003 at the Women Faith Leaders of Marin Conference
in San Rafael, Calif.
