CLASS OF 2004 CELEBRATES

ABSW honored 15 graduates at commencement ceremonies May 22. Held at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church in Oakland, the service included an address by the Rev. Florence Li, a 1985 alumnae who is now National Coordinator for Intercultural Ministries and Asian Churches Strategist for National Ministries, American Baptist Churches USA. Special awards were presented to the following:

• the Jessie Day Drexler Award for Highest Academic Achievement for an M.A. student went to Laura Damkoehler;
• the Claiborne M. Hill Award for Highest Academic Standing for an M.Div. student was awarded to Marie Clare P. Onwubuariri;
• the L. Doward McBain Preaching Prize went to Jae Ryun Chung;
• the J. Aflred Smith Sr. Award for Outstanding Ministry in the Black Church went to Keith Martin;
• the Jessie Day Drexler Award for Pastoral Ministries went to Mary Beth Brocklebank;
• the Jessie Day Drexler Award for Competence in the Field of Bible and Theology was awarded to Marie Clare P. Onwubuariri;
• the Marian E. Bratcher Scholarship Prize in Functional Theology was awarded to Sook Grace Sohn-Chung;
• and the Robert B. Laurin Scholarship Prize in Old Testament went to Jinoh Kim.

Four graduates of the Allen Temple Leadership Institute received Certificates in Christian Ministry: Barbara Jean Campbell, Claire M. Hithe, Delores Jean McCrary, and Beverly Magie Phillips.
