SMITH SHARES HIS JOURNEY
The
path of the Rev. Dr. J. Alfred Smith Sr. begins in Kansas City and
continues through the Civil Rights Era to his remarkable and transformative
ministry at the Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland.
ABSW’s noted Professor of Preaching and Church Ministries
calls that journey On the Jericho Road in his latest book,
published by InterVarsity Press. The book is subtitled “A
Memoir of Racial Justice, Social Action and Prophetic Ministry.”
“Thank God for men and women like Dr. J. Alfred Smith Sr.
who stand in the gap, fighting shoulder to shoulder for social justice,”
writes U.S. Representative Barbara Lee in the book’s foreword.
“This is an African American of faith who has never forgotten
his roots or his culture…. I'm excited to see his incredible
story come to the printed page.”
In celebration of the publication of On the Jericho Road,
ABSW will host a luncheon/book-signing Sept. 29 from 12-2 p.m. on
the ABSW campus. Smith will share some of the highlights of his
book along with pearls of wisdom gained from years of being a servant
of God and advocate of justice for all people.
