LEADERS DISCUSS CHALLENGES OF WOMEN IN MINISTRY

More than 45 ministers and students gathered at ABSW in March for an all-day conference on women in ministry.

"Female as Pastor: Navigating Male-Dominated Church Structures" was the theme of the conference, sponsored by the local chapter of Women In Professional Ministry.

The Rev. Dr. James Stumbo, counselor and director of the Samaritan Counseling Center of Southern Oregon, was the workshop facilitator. Workshop panelists included three ABSW alumnae: the Rev. Valentine Royal ('90), director of Women in Ministry for American Baptist Churches; the Rev. Katie Choy-Wong ('80), ABSW director of admissions and former area minister for American Baptist Churches of the West; and the Rev. Pat Ciupek-Reed ('93), senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Antioch, Calif.
