Richard Brock (64) retired May 31, 2001, as
area consultant for ABC/West.
Douglas Brown (66) was given the James E.
Alatis Award for Distinguished Achievement in March 2001. This award
is conferred annually to one member of the international professional
society of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Martha Jean Brown (55) moved to John Knox
Village in Lees Summit, Mo. She is the accompanist for two
vocal groups and plays the harpsichord for the Village.
Anita Castillo (84) was the speaker for ABC
Women in Professional Ministry at the ABC Biennial in Providence,
R.I.
Harrison Coleman (00) is a D. Min. student
at San Francisco Theological Seminary.
Margaret Cooper-Susman (60) recently married
John Edwards.
Harland Davenport (60) has been serving First
Baptist Church, Bellflower, Calif., as interim pastor since January.
Terry Sue Fischer (80) is the interim minister
of Mission Support for the ABC Northwest Region.
Douglas Gabbard (97) became pastor of First
Baptist Church, Dixon, Ill., earlier this year.
Walter Graham (53) was given the Paul Harris
Fellow Award by the Rotary Club, Myrtle Point, Ore.
Richard Haworth (52) and his wife, Margaret,
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this summer.
Bruce Huffer (61) was recently re-elected
chairman of the Two Rivers/Manitowoc Habitat for Humanity Board
in Manitowoc, Wis.
Richard Jones (53) and Shirley Jones celebrated
50 years of marriage on June 9, 2001.
Royce Jones (59) is interim area minister
for Mid-American Baptist Churches. On March 1, he was selected by
the governor of Iowa to be chair of the newly created Iowa Disaster
Human Resources Council.
George Linzey (73) began as senior pastor of
the First Congregational Church of Lemon Grove, Calif., on June
1, 2001.
James McCrossen (57) received the Volunteer
of the Year award for Wayside Waifs. He continues to serve on the
boards of Central Baptist Seminary and William Jewell College.
Eleanor Morgan (98) was appointed pastor of
the Elmhurst United Methodist Church in Oakland. She began her pastorate
on July 1, 2001.
Robert Murphy (52) was named Rogue Valley Youth
for Christ Honorary Pastor for his many years of service. Murphy
serves on the board of directors for the Rogue Valley Youth for
Christ in Oregon.
Ray E. Murray (63) retired in October 2000
from Emmanuel First Baptist Church in Sparks, Nev. Murray has previously
served churches in CA, HI, and CO.
John Polite, III ('97) will become the pastor of
the Panorama Baptist Church, Panorama City, Calif., on Sept. 1,
2001.
David Quiring (62) retired on June 30 as chaplain
of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, N.J. He served
in this position for 26 years.
Rodney Romney (60, 76) retired in June
2000 after 20 years as senior minister of the First Baptist Church
of Seattle, Wash. He is currently serving as interim pastor at First
Baptist Church in McMinnville, Ore. His fourth book, Wilderness
Spirituality, was published in 2000 by Element Press in Boston.
Val Sauer (69, 74) retired from parish
ministry, after 33 years on Dec. 1, 2000, and is currently serving
as executive director of Interim Ministry Specialists with the ABC
of the West.
Robert Shaw (58) was named executive minister
emeritus by ABC of Michigan in October 2000. He was the Visiting
Professor of Evangelism and Practical Ministry at Central Baptist
Theological Seminary for 1999-2000. Shaw now serves as the interim
senior pastor at First Baptist Church, Sioux Falls, S.D.
David Silke (53, 58) is the interim
pastor at First Baptist Church, Olympia, Wash.
Gregg Sneller (85) was the recipient of a
National Clergy Renewal Grant through the Lilly Foundation. He is
currently serving as president of the Minister's Council for the
American Baptist Churches of Oregon.
Condie Watters (80) became pastor of Canfield
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Youngstown, Ohio, in April
2001.
