The Class of 2001 celebrated its graduation May 19 at First
Baptist Church of Richmond. Eight graduates received the master
of divinity degree, and three received the master of arts.
The commencement speaker was Dr. Robert Campbell, former general
secretary of the American Baptist Churches USA.
Valerie Miles-Tribble brought the student address. She also
received three awards:
- The Claiborne M. Hill Award for Highest Academic Standing
for an M.Div. Student;
- The J. Alfred Smith, Sr. Award for Outstanding Ministry
in the Black Church;
- and The Jessie Day Drexler Award for Competence in the
Field of Bible and Theology.
Alex Stas received the Jessie Day Drexler Award for Highest
Academic Standing for an M.A. Student and the Robert B. Laurin
Scholarship Prize in Old Testament.
Desmond Hoffmeister received the L. Doward McBain Preaching
Prize.
David Ankcorn received the Jessie Day Drexler Award for Pastoral
Ministries.
Daniel Pryfogle received the Marian E. Bratcher Scholarship
Prize in Functional Theology.
Certificates were also presented to graduates of the Allen
Temple Leadership Institute:
- Ann Bradley
- Lynnette Gailord
- Navielle Ruffus
- Gail Thompson
- and Rhonda White Warner.
