2002 GRADUATION CELEBRATION

 

There was lots of celebrating and prayers of thanks May 18 as the Class of 2002 graduated from ABSW. Commencement services were held at Beth Eden Baptist Church in Oakland. Dr. George Cummings, academic dean and professor of theology, delivered the commencement address to 14 master of divinity recipients and one master of arts graduate. A number of graduates were recognized for their scholastic achievements. Laura Keller received the Claiborne M.Hill Award for Highest Academic Standing for an M.Div. Student. The L. Doward McBain Preaching Prize was presented to Susan Criscione and Rogelio Ovalle. Martha Taylor was awarded the J. Alfred Smith Sr. Award for Outstanding Ministry in the Black Church. Marian E. Bratcher Scholarship Prize in Functional Theology was given to Victoria Schlintz. ABSW presented three students the Jessie Day Drexler Award: Rosemary Hicks (Master of Arts Student with the Highest Academic Standing), Charlene Alexander (Pastoral Ministries), and Susan Criscione (Field of Bible and Theology).
