SEMINARY IN THE CITY
Senior Natalya Johnson and Dr. Nancy Hall, director of continuing education and associate professor of ministry, attended the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship in Grand Rapids, Mich., in June. The conference wrapped up Calvin's 2005-2006 grant year that included the January ABSW Pastoral Leadership Conference, "Envisioning Worship Renewal."
Dr. Judy Yates Siker, dean of the faculty and associate professor
of New Testament, has spent many recent Sunday mornings in the pulpits of Presbyterian churches across the Presbytery of the Pacific (PCUSA), including congregations in Los Angeles, Reseda and Palos Verdes.
"The Stewardship Model of Christian Environmentalism," an article by Dr. Marian Ronan, associate professor of contemporary theology and religion, will appear in the July-September 2006 issue of The Living Pulpit.
Ronan and Dr. Keith Russell, seminary president, preached at University Baptist Church in Seattle in June on what they have learned from each other's Catholic and American Baptist traditions.
Dr. J. Alfred Smith Sr., professor of preaching and church ministries, has a new book coming out in August: Speak Until Justice Wakes: Prophetic Reflections from J. Alfred Smith, Sr. (Judson Press), edited by Jini M. Kilgore.
Dr. LeAnn Flesher, professor of Old Testament, was interviewed with N.T. Wright and David Dark for a documentary on apocalyptic literature for FamilyLife. The documentary was scheduled to air the first part of July.
Flesher's book Left Behind? Facts Behind the Fiction (Judson Press) is due out in stores this summer. She signed books at the July Christian Book Association conference in Denver.
Flesher also has two articles coming out: "James and the Social Gospel" will be published in the July-September 2006 edition of The Living Pulpit; and "A Time to Weep—A Time to Laugh" will be published in Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology in September.
The Rev. Michelle Holmes, vice president, will attend the American Baptist Churches Ministers Council Senate in August as a representative for the Ministers Council of the Greater Bay Area. |
