SEMINARY IN THE CITY
Dr. Peter Yuichi Clark, associate professor of pastoral care, recently was appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Supervision and Training in Ministry. He also began a term as peer reviewer for the journal Pastoral Psychology.
Last August, Yuichi Clark completed a term on the board of directors for the Japanese American Religious Federation Assisted Living Facility in San Francisco known as Kokoro. Currently he is serving as a member of the accreditation committee for the Pacific Region of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.
Yuichi Clark presented a bilingual English-Japanese workshop last fall on "Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education for Priest Candidates" at the Nichiren Buddhist International Center in Hayward, Calif.
Dr. Marian Ronan, associate professor of contemporary theology and religion, led a workshop last September for Grail, an ecumenical women's group, on "Water: Life Before Profit" at
St. Francis de Sales School in Philadelphia.
Ronan published three articles in recent months: "Mandatory Celibacy and the Impassible God" in EqualwRites (September-November 2006); "The Stewardship Model of Christian Environmentalism" in The Living Pulpit (July-September 2006); and "An Inauspicious Beginning" in EqualwRites (June-August 2006).
Dr. J. Alfred Smith Sr., professor of preaching and church ministries, addressed the International Congress on Preaching in Cambridge, England, in April. He lectured on "Strategies of Successful Sermon Preparation." He also concluded the conference by preaching a sermon on "A Changeless Christ in A Changing World," based on Hebrews 13:8.
Dr. Judy Yates Siker, dean of the faculty and associate professor of New Testament, published a number of articles in the past year, including "An Elusive Shalom," in The Living Pulpit (October-December 2006); "Breaking the Mold: A New Look at Women in the Gospels," in Liguorian (February 2007); "Presbyterian Church (PCUSA)" and "American Baptist Churches USA and Homosexuality" in Encyclopedia of Homosexuality and Religion (Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 2006); and "Why Did Jesus Have to Die?" in The Living Pulpit (April-June 2007). Siker also writes the lectionary guide article for each edition of The Living Pulpit.
In March she coordinated the annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature and American Academy of Religion Pacific Coast Region at the Graduate Theological Union. She has also kept up a busy schedule of speaking engagements. In April she was a guest preacher at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Los Angeles, and in January and February she gave a weekly lecture on the Parables at
St. Peter's By the Sea Presbyterian Church in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. |
