Sylvester Acevedo (’76, ’79) and his wife celebrated their 50th anniversary in June 1999 and have moved to Atherton Baptist Homes of Alhambra, Calif.

Elam Anderson (’52) was recently recognized as "Officer Emeritus" of the McMinnville Ministerial Association for his efforts in activating a county-wide Marriage Policy and Prayer Partner Covenant. He will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ordination in April.

Tessie Belue (’96) has founded White Dove-Imani-Rainbow Lodge, a peace and reconciliation ministry that focuses upon the creative arts to help those who suffer conflict over differences of religion, gender, and ethnicity. She has also published her first book, Reflections of a Curly-Haired Buffalo Woman.

William Bergstrom (’67) has served on the Northern Illinois Conference Board of Ordained Ministry for the United Methodist Church since 1998.

Paul Brassey (’87) had his doctoral thesis, “Metaphor and the Incomparable God in Isaiah 40-55,” published in November by Bibal Press.

Wesley Brown (’57) and his wife, Cheryl, are on USA Assignment from the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague.

Anita Castillo (’84) is the senior chaplain for the Santa Maria Sheriff’s Substation, chaplain with the U.S. Army Hospital in Port Hueneme, Calif., and is currently in a doctoral program in psychology at Southern California University for Professional Studies in Santa Ana.

Myron Chartier (’63) and his wife, Janet (’63), semi-retired at the end of 1999 from their position as minister of Christian education and family life with American Baptist Churches of Michigan.

Judith Chatfield (’78) received a D.Min. degree in June 2001.

William Cline (’66) traveled to the Netherlands last spring and was elected "Judge of Elections" for his precinct in the November General Election.

Margaret Cowden (’75) was elected chair of the governing board of Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility in New York City.

John DeSaegher (’58) is the pastor of Paradise Hills United Church of Christ and was chosen as the outstanding Chaplain of the Year at West Los Angeles VA Hospital in 1996.

Dale Edmondson (’57) and his wife, Alice, are teaching for one semester at Central Philippine University in Iloilo, Philipines.

Stanley Felgar (’59) is a district chaplain for Nursing Home Ministries, a volunteer mission agency.

Lowry Fredrickson (’61) is an advisory board member of the Linn County Child Development Center.

Oscar Friedman (’64) was speaker for the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in Temple City, Calif. He is an area chaplain at Atherton Baptist Homes in Alhambra, Calif.

Douglas Gabbard (’97) is currently a Ph.D. student in New Testament at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.

Gordon Gilbert (’54) is interim pastor at First Baptist Church, Springfield, Ore.

Robert Gray (’00) is the chaplain and Spiritual Aims Director for the Ogdensburg Kiwanis and will be ordained early in the spring of 2002 by First Baptist Church of Ogdensburg, N.Y.

Richard Grenell (’63) is program vice president of the Great Plains Harmony Barbershop Chorus, Fargo, N.D., and nutrition site manager, serving hot meals at noon to seniors in Ashby, Minn.

Jose Guerra (’87) was elected president of the American Baptist Churches of the Pacific Southwest in October.

John Heidel (’66) retired in June 2001 after 32 years as a chaplain at Punahau School, a K-12 private school with 3,700 students.

Meagan Howland (’95) and husband Matt had a baby girl, Jocelyn Grace, on October 10, 2001.

Royce Jones (’59) was in New York City at Ground Zero as assistant national director of the American Baptist Men’s Disaster Trailer Program. He directed a short-term mission trip to Nicaragua this winter.

William Kastning (’52) has had a scholarship fund for campers set up in his name at Black Forest Camp Conference Center and is looking forward to returning to Flagler, Colo., First Baptist Church to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ordination in June 2002.

Warren Lanman (’54) retired in 1999 and has joined Community Church of Vero Beach, Fla.

Harry Lansman (’50, ’54) (Correction from Fall 2001), is an area chaplain at Atherton Baptist Homes in Alhambra, Calif.

Marjorie Lewis (’91) received a research grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to develop HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention ministries.

Joseph Lutz (’81) received a D.Min. degree from Fuller Theological Seminary last June.

Larry Martin (’84) was installed as the director of education and church relations at the International Justice Mission in Washington, D.C.

David McConnell (’74) during the summer is an instructor in preaching and worship at Local Pastor Licensing School in Denver.

Arthur Merrill (’54) is enjoying retirement in the Northwoods of Minnesota and is the webmaster for the Presbytery of Northern Waters, PC/USA.

Linda Moody (’94) has taken a new position as academic dean at Antioch University's Los Angeles campus after 20 years at Mills College in Oakland.

Francis Nelson (’89) is the president of the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County, the McMinnville Telecommunication Committee, founder of McMinnville School District 40 Foundation, and produces a weekly television show, "Speaking Frankly," on Community Access Television in McMinnville, Ore.

Robert Nutting (’67) is doing limited volunteer teaching and pulpit supply in Loveland, Colo.

Lawrence Odegard (’52) retired in 1996 after serving as Associate Professor of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Dubuque.

Yoshio Oshima (’54) is to publish his second book on the works of former American Baptist Missionaries in Japan.

Eugene Paden (’49) was in Kiev, Ukraine, in October teaching "Highlights in the Life and Teaching of Jesus" for the School of Missions and Leadership of Andrew University.

Melvin Pekrul (’46, ’50) was made a life member of the Las Vegas Salvation Army Advisory Board after serving on the board for more than 25 years.

Richard Powell (’80) is a part-time minister in the Ryderwood Community Church, a chaplain for Holland America Cruise Lines, and a part-time hospice chaplain in Centralia, Wash.

D. Lee Reichstein (’55) retired in January 2001 and now volunteers for Red Cross Meals on Wheels.

Gary Reif (’63) has been serving as the Interim Executive Minister of the Mid-American Baptist Churches since September.

James Sandholdt (’78) and his wife, Alyce, will be on home assignment from International Ministries starting in February of 2002. He will pastor the First Baptist Church of Kalispell, Mont.

Dale Scott (’56) retired from Yosemite Lakes Community church in October and moved to Sylmar, Calif.

Donald Shoemaker (’75) became chaplain of Seal Beach, Calif., police department in October.

Gordon Smith (’52, ’57) was recently named by MMBB Board of Managers as Executive Director Emeritus and had a recently renovated conference room at MMBB headquarters named in his honor.

Alan Stroud (’83) has remarried after 14 years to Cindy on July 31, 2001.

Floyd Trammel (’99) was called as the pastor of the First Friendship Institutional Baptist Church of San Francisco in January.

Charles Walker (’64) retired after 23 years as the director of chaplaincy services, Correctional Institutions Chaplaincy Ministry for Santa Clara County, Calif.

Robert Wallace (’58) has been serving full time as an interim pastor at First Baptist Church, Holden, Mass., and has been active in ecumenical activities since retiring in 2000.
