IN MEMORIAM
The seminary community mourned the passing of two friends in recent
months. The Rev. Dr. Harley Hunt, a member of the class of 1966,
died October 7, 2004. Former trustee John Sparrowk died November

Hunt was former executive director of The Ministers Council of
American Baptist Churches USA. He was also a member of the ABC General
Board, the Board of Educational Ministries, and the Board of Managers
of The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board.
Previously he had served as pastor of Emerald Baptist Church in
Eugene, Ore. He also held pastorates in Washington and Utah. His
son, David Hunt, is the immediate past president of American Baptist
Churches USA.
Sparrowk served on the ABSW Board of Trustees. He was an active
lay leader in several American Baptist churches and served on the
boards for the Los Angeles City Mission Society, Linfield College,
and American Baptist Men of the West.
As a developer, he built the California communities of Round Hill
Country Club and Estates in Alamo and Lake Camanche Village among
others.
His passion was for missions. In his 88 years, Sparrowk traveled
