CONFERENCE TO EXPLORE PROPHETIC PREACHING

What kind of preaching is needed in the 21st century? Perhaps a 20th-century style, one that marked the civil rights movement, a form and content most powerfully expressed by Dr. Gardner C. Taylor, the dean of African American preachers.

"The Recovery of Prophetic Preaching!" is the theme of the annual Pastoral Leadership Conference Jan. 11-12, 2007, at ABSW.

The featured speaker is the Rev. Edward Taylor, compiler/editor of several volumes and a CD collection that captures Gardner C. Taylor's words. Edward Taylor is senior pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in San Jose and has served churches in Louisiana, New York and New Jersey. Ebony magazine named him one of 30 leaders of the future, and in 2000 he was inducted into Morehouse College's Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers.

Taylor will give the Theodore Keaton Lecture at 7 p.m. Jan. 11. The lecture is free and open to the public. Registered conference participants are invited to enjoy dinner with Taylor at 6 p.m. The program continues on Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will include a time of worship and a report on the seminary's work by President Keith Russell.

Registration is $95. Participants may receive academic credit or continuing education credits. To register, go to www.absw.edu or contact Jodie Tooley by email or 510-841-1905.
