American Baptist Seminary of the West has a long tradition of providing an education to international students. Being located in Berkeley, CA positions us to serve effectively as an international seminary. Currently, some of our classes are taught in Korean as well as Spanish.
Our past graduates are from India, South Korea, Myanmar, Ghana, Rwanda, and other countries. International students, like our domestic students, are not just Baptist. They are Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, and even Anglican.
We would be very grateful to help you apply to one of our programs.
Prospective international students submit the standard application. A few items to note follow:
International students from a country in which English is not the official language must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) from within the past two years.
Applicants must submit official records from each academic institution attended after secondary school. Official copies are original documents issued by the institution which bear the actual signature of the registrar and the seal of the issuing institution. Photocopies of the official signature, stamp or seal are not acceptable. Submit official academic records in the original language, accompanied by English translations. Academic records must show the dates of your enrollment, all subjects or courses, units, credits or hours, and grades in each subject. All records must include a complete description of institutional grading scales or other standards of evaluation, and show official evidence of the conferral of degrees.
Financial aid (FA) is awarded to newly admitted students in the order of receipt of completed FA application after admission has been granted. The FA priority deadline for Fall semester students is April 15. All applications received after August 1 (Fall admission) and January 1 (Spring admission) may be considered at the committee’s discretion. All documents submitted as part of your application become the property of ABSW and will not be returned to you. This step must be completed and you must hear back from the financial aid office as to your eligibility before you submit an I-20 request form.
I-20 Request Form/Student Visa Status
ABSW is authorized to provide students with the I-20 document necessary to obtain an F-1 student visa. To obtain the I-20, a student must document sufficient financial support for at least one year of study at ABSW by submitting an I-20 Request Form (included in your packet or downloadable from our website). This form demonstrates whether or not your total financial resources, when combined with offered ABSW financial aid, qualify you for an F-1 student visa. Once a student receives the I-20, he or she goes to the U.S. Consulate office in his or her home country to apply for the F-1 student visa. Please allow ample time for visa processing.
