Track I:

"Planning Congregational Music”

Dr. Nancy Hall, ABSW Professor

(1.5-3.0 Units) 

Mon-Fri: June 14-18:  6:00-9:30pm 

 

Designed for church music leaders, lay persons, and pastors, this seminar will focus on planning congregational song and worship music, particularly for a "season of song" for October through December, including hymns and other music appropriate to their own congregation's style of worship. Mutual sharing of resources will enhance the learning and creative atmosphere.    

 

 

Track II:

“Singing the Sermon—Preaching the Song”

Don Lewis, World-renown musician/educator with ABSW Professors of Preaching, J. Alfred Smith, Sr. and Sangyil Park

This course will take both a theoretical and practical approach to the roles of music and preaching, how they work both independently and cooperatively in the worship experience. Track III:

“Womanist Preaching”

Dr. Donna Allen, ABSW Adjunct Professor

(1.5 Units)

This course is designed for those who listen to preaching and preachers—the novice preacher with little experience and the veteran preacher. The course will examine several ways in which Womanist theology and ethics can influence the preaching event and inform sermon content. Students will have an opportunity to preach and participate in sermon feedback/critical reflection as spiritual formation.
